Privacy policy
This policy explains how Sorted News ("Sorted", "we", "us") handles personal data on this website and in the Sorted app. We follow India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and the Information Technology Act, 2000.
This website
This website has no accounts, no sign-up forms, no advertising and no tracking cookies. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested and time) for security and to keep the site running. These logs are deleted within 30 days.
The site loads fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google's servers. Google's own privacy policy applies to that connection.
If you email us, we keep your name, email address and message so we can reply. We do not add you to a mailing list unless you ask us to.
The Sorted app
The app is not yet released. When it launches, we plan to collect only what we need to run it:
- Reading preferences such as language, text size and saved stories.
- Basic usage data such as which stories are opened, so we can improve the feed. We use this in aggregate.
- Device data such as device model, operating system and app version, to fix crashes.
- Account details, only if you choose to create an account.
We will update this policy with the full details, including any analytics or crash-reporting services we use, before the app goes live.
How we use data
We use personal data to run and improve Sorted, to reply to you, and to keep the service secure. We do not sell personal data, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.
Who we share it with
We share data only with service providers that help us run Sorted, such as hosting and email providers, under contracts that limit how they use it. We may disclose data where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep personal data only as long as we need it for the purposes above, or as the law requires, and then delete it.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you the personal data we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. You can also withdraw any consent you have given. Write to us at the address below and we will reply within 30 days.
Children
Sorted is not directed at children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new effective date.
